Most padel frame protectors on the market feature very strong adhesive surfaces to ensure they stay in place during play. If the guard has been on the racket for a long time, removing it requires some careful steps.
It’s common for adhesive residue or some of the paint from the racket head to come off with the guard. Below are a few tips to help avoid these issues.
Note: There is a wide variety of frame protectors available, so these tips may not work for all types.
-
Plan Ahead: Before you start removing the guard, decide whether you will be installing a new one immediately or just removing the old one. If you plan to install a new guard, have it ready nearby.
-
Start Carefully: Begin by gently peeling off the guard from one edge. If it’s not coming off easily, don’t force it as this might damage the racket’s paint.
-
Use Heat: Find a heat gun or hairdryer and try warming the guard slightly before removal. This can soften the adhesive and make it easier to peel off without affecting the racket’s paint.
-
Handling Adhesive Residue: If there’s adhesive residue left on the racket head, it can be tricky to remove. The easiest solution is to install a new head guard immediately to protect the surface from dust and dirt.
-
Cleaning Residue: If you need to clean the adhesive off, an alcohol-based adhesive remover or nail polish remover is generally effective.
- Important: Follow the manufacturer’s instructions and avoid contact with skin or clothing. Protect your eyes from potential splashes and ensure adequate ventilation
- Test the Cleaner: Apply the remover to a small area first to check how it reacts with the racket’s material. Some products can damage the paint.
-
Be Persistent: Removing adhesive residue may require some effort and persistence. However, with these steps, your racket head should soon be free of residue and ready for new games.
